Seocho Garak Tower – Curved forms and precise implementation
With its dynamically curved design language, the Seocho Garak Tower East in Seoul appears like a metallic wave rising from the cityscape. The 130-meter-high tower was completed in 2011 and stands as an architectural statement of modern construction in the heart of the South Korean capital. The distinctive façade with its curved lines and bent surfaces posed significant challenges for the planning and execution of the window solutions. Particularly demanding was the construction of the motor-operated parallel opening windows, as these were executed in various parallelogram shapes—each window with its own cut and angle. Gretsch-Unitas developed a special system technology for this purpose, including custom-adapted parallel opening hinges for the irregular geometry. The project demonstrates how technical innovation and design ambition can merge into an architectural unity.
The custom solutions from G-U combine state-of-the-art technology with sophisticated design. Concealed parallel opening fittings and specially developed chain drives ensure precise, quiet, and low-maintenance operation—even for complex window shapes. The result is an elegant technical solution in harmony with the visionary design by Het Architecten Consort.
