Frankfurt Old Town – History meets modern urban life
The reconstruction of Frankfurt's old town has resulted in an urban development project of supraregional significance on the historic plots. A total of 35 buildings – including 15 faithful reconstructions and 20 new constructions – form the new quarter between the cathedral and the Römer. Historic streets such as the Krönungsweg and the alley "Hinter dem Lämmchen" have been restored and have been open to the public since May 2018. At this location, the old town tells the story of Frankfurt – from the Roman camp through the medieval trade fair era to the near-total destruction in World War II. The reconstruction was the subject of controversial debate for years and was ultimately realized as a sensitive urban planning concept. The new quarter is not an open-air museum, but a vibrant part of the city center with residential and commercial spaces. The challenge was to combine the historically evolved cityscape with contemporary functionality. In this way, a place of identity was created that meets the need for both historical continuity and urban life – a successful example of modern urban repair with high quality of stay and civic acceptance.
The new quarter of the old town was not conceived as a museum ensemble, but as a livable urban district. The so-called "urban repair" is the result of a careful approach to the historical heritage that meets today's requirements for urbanity. The high level of acceptance among citizens shows that a contemporary understanding of architecture and history has been convincingly implemented. In 2019, the project was awarded the MIPIM Award as "Best Urban Regeneration Project".

The Gretsch-Unitas group of companies contributed suitable system solutions to the equipment of the new old town quarter. Among other things, pre-wall frames from Gretsch-Unitas Baubeschläge as well as the locking systems janus8000 and livius6000 from BKS were used. SECURY multi-point locks provide increased burglary protection. The products used combine security, comfort, and aesthetics – in keeping with the high-quality overall design of the project.
The comprehensive range of BKS mortise locks offers visual consistency as well as various locking types for wooden, steel, aluminum, or plastic doors. Always the right solution for many different applications – from private interior doors to heavily frequented final doors in administrative or industrial buildings. BKS mortise locks are particularly durable and low-maintenance, which is advantageous for high usage frequency. And of course, they comply with DIN 18250 and DIN 18251.
The janus8000 reversible key system meets the highest demands for security, functionality, and design. As a premium solution, it is ideally suited for master key systems.
Security is a key criterion for janus8000 locking cylinders from BKS. The security card ensures that only the cardholder can order or duplicate keys. This makes the janus8000 one of the most secure mechanical locking systems available.
The livius6000 brand impresses as a modern locking system with reversible key technology. The livius6000 is the right reversible key system if you want to bring registered mechanical security technology into your home or commercial premises. In addition to the appropriate functions and features, the locking cylinders in the livius6000 system offer the possibility for subsequent expansions.
