Ronald McDonald Houses – safe accommodation for families
The McDonald’s Kinderhilfe Stiftung operates comfortable and secure accommodations for families through the Ronald McDonald Houses, whose seriously ill children are being treated in nearby clinics. Across Germany, a total of 23 Ronald McDonald Houses are operated, providing families with safe accommodation during this time and taking care of their well-being. These facilities offer apartments, kitchens, playrooms, and other amenities so that families can be close to their children and provide them with support. Four of these Ronald McDonald Houses in Oldenburg, Jena, Hamburg-Eppendorf, and Vogtareuth have been equipped with state-of-the-art security technology, with safety being the top priority. The challenges associated with door technology were carefully addressed, as it is important to control access during the family's stay and to automatically prevent access after the period has ended, in order to ensure the safety of all residents.
The large number of people can lead to keys being lost, which not only allows unauthorized access but can also result in additional costs for replacing cylinders and keys. To address these challenges, an efficient solution was sought that takes into account the families' limited stay while providing a high level of security and ensuring comfortable and secure operation of doors both indoors and outdoors.
Our products in use
The selected system solution was the electronic locking system "ixalo Technologie SE", which includes electronic cylinders as well as fittings, without requiring elaborate door modifications. Additional locking elements were used to complete the system solution. In the houses in Oldenburg and Hamburg-Eppendorf, panic and object locks as well as fittings were also installed.
The innovative electronic locking system ixalo with SE technology offers flexible expandability and a combination with existing mechanical components. In addition, the ixalo hardware and BKS KeyManager software ensure maximum security. The energy-efficient SE technology enables a high number of locking cycles (up to 600,000) and long standby times (up to 10 years).
The electrically controlled panic door locks from BKS offer secure escape door solutions with clear signaling and convenient control. The compact systems in surface-mounted or flush-mounted versions meet the highest safety standards according to DIN EN 13637 and EltVTR. Thanks to modular design, network connectivity, and a wide range of functions, individual door solutions can be easily implemented – space-saving and reliable.
