Royal Hamilius, Luxembourg City
Royal Hamilius is an urban mixed-use project in the heart of Luxembourg, creating a transition between the historic old town and the modern city structure. Based on designs by Foster + Partners and Tetra Kayser, a vibrant urban quarter was realized, combining retail, offices, gastronomy, residential spaces, and new public areas. The design preserves sightlines along Grand Rue and Avenue Monterey and integrates the listed Hôtel des Postes as a central design element. A highlight is the 9,000 m² department store with a publicly accessible rooftop garden, offering visitors impressive views over Luxembourg. The conversion of Rue Aldringen into a pedestrian zone and new pathways through the site enhance urban permeability and create new connections between the old town and the city center.
Technical features
Royal Hamilius focuses on sustainable architecture: a thermal labyrinth beneath the base slab utilizes the concrete’s storage mass for passive cooling of the supply air. The buildings achieve a BREEAM Excellent rating and feature accessible, green roofs. Natural stone as a defining design element runs throughout the entire ensemble.
