Perelman Performing Arts Center – World Trade Center, New York
A new cultural meeting point has emerged at Ground Zero with the Perelman Performing Arts Center. The striking cube with its translucent marble shell combines timeless elegance and innovative functionality. The Perelman Performing Arts Center (PAC NYC) is the latest milestone on the World Trade Center site—a place that unites symbolic significance with cultural radiance. Designed by the New York architectural firm REX, the building presents itself as a minimalist cube whose facade, made of thinly cut marble, appears monumental in daylight and glows like a lantern at night. With approximately 12,000 square meters, the center offers three flexibly combinable performance spaces, enabling a wide range of event formats—from classical theater productions and dance to music and innovative multimedia productions.
This versatility makes the building a stage for the diversity of New York. In addition to its function as a cultural venue, the Perelman Center is also of urban significance: it marks the completion of new buildings at Ground Zero and creates a link between remembrance and the future. The opening in 2023 not only marked the completion of an architectural project, but also the revitalization of Lower Manhattan as a cultural location. PAC NYC thus stands as a symbol of resilience, creativity, and the role of art in the city.

As a specialist for all types of facade openings, Gretsch-Unitas Baubeschläge combines project-specific special components—developed as innovative engineering solutions according to individual customer requirements—with elements from the proven standard range. The Perelman Performing Arts Centre in New York impresses with its backlit stone facade and distinctive window elements with marble infill. Tilt-and-slide fittings from Gretsch-Unitas were used, which, thanks to their advanced technology, ensure safe operation and high user comfort—even for demanding formats.
The tilt-and-slide function offers functional and aesthetic advantages for many construction projects: the window sash lowers slightly outward when opened and remains stable in any position—ideal for a homogeneous exterior appearance in all-glass facades (structural glazing).
