Messe Düsseldorf, South Entrance – Barrier-free and inviting
Messe Düsseldorf is now one of the world’s leading trade fair companies, with a history dating back to 1947. Originally founded under the name NOWEA, it was established as a platform for export and performance exhibitions in post-war Germany. In the following years, the site developed rapidly due to a growing number of trade fairs. From the 1950s onwards, increasing numbers of exhibitors and visitors made a new, permanent exhibition center necessary. In 1971, the fair found its current home with the move to Düsseldorf-Stockum. Since then, the site has been continuously expanded and modernized. An architectural milestone is the new South Entrance, realized by Lindner Architekten, which opened in 2019 and significantly enhances the exhibition center’s presence towards the city.
Today, Messe Düsseldorf offers 261,817 m² of hall space, distributed across flexibly usable halls ranging from 4,000 m² to 25,000 m². The ring-shaped arrangement of the halls allows for short distances, and a plateau connects the RheinHalle with the adjacent Merkur Spiel-Arena. The South Entrance was completely redesigned in 2018/2019.
